Ray ‘Pappy’ Akers

Roscommon resident Ray “Pappy” Akers, 87, died July 7, 2017, at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.

A service was held July 12 at Walsh Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Ber­nard Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, Roscommon.

Born May 29, 1930 in Fort Black­more, VA, he was the son of Stonewall Cleveland and Martha Malinda (Lane) Akers. He and Lois Joann Tressler were united in marriage April 17, 1948, in Connellsville, PA. He had lived in Lin­coln Park prior to moving to Roscom­mon in 1988. Mr. Akers worked for 36 years at the Ford Rouge Plant, retiring in 1988 as a skilled trade supervisor. He enjoyed hunting and watching wildlife in his yard.

Preceding him in death were is wife, Lois April 5, 1995; son, Danny Keith; brothers, Ellwood and Bob Akers; sis­ters, Ruby Cook and Ruth Hall; and son- in-law, Paul Fournier.

Survivors include his children, Wil­liam (Gayle) Akers of Minnesota, Larry (Shannon) Akers of Lincoln Park, Nan­cy (James III) Price of Taylor, Barry (Tracy) Akers of Lincoln Park, Dennis (Tonja) Akers of Surfside Beach, SC, Jeffrey (Karen) Akers of Wyandotte, Connie (Donald) Nash of Lincoln Park and Rhonda Fournier of Allen Park; brother, Ivory Akers; sister, Glenrose (Charlie) Danner; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.
