Sand Bar topples Spikehorn, creates three-way tie for second

Sand Bar defeated Spikehorn, 23-14, to create a three-way tie for second place in the Houghton Lake Men’s Softball League standings.

League-leading Limberlost, 9-0, de­feated Spicer’s, 27-7, to put a two-game distance between them and Old Town Tavern, Sand Bar and Spikehorn, who are each 7-2.

Old Town Tavern added a win with an 8-3 downing of Budweiser while Eagle Heating and Cooling dispatched Dealz on Wheelz, 14-12, and Anchor Inn ousted Lyman’s, 8-3.

Sand Bar 23, Spikehorn 14

Behind pitching from Tommy Blanchard, Sand Bar handed Spikehorn its second defeat of the season, 23-14.

Kenny Koscielecki led Sand Bar with a 5-5 performance, including a home run, while Blanchard was 4-5 with two home runs. Matt Webster was 3-5 with a home run and Nick Poindexter was 3-4 with a home run.

Old Town 8, Budweiser 3

Old Town Tavern poured out Bud­weiser by five runs, 8-3, as Brad Urbach picked up the pitching victory over Mike Roy and Brad Lennox.

Offensively for Old Town, Tim Kraenzlein was 2-2 while Jake Straub, Greg Kauffman, Patrick Gibbons and Perry Bratcher were each 2-3. Kauffman had two RBIs whlie Bratcher had a home run.

Anchor Inn 8, Lyman’s 3

Anchor Inn outlasted Lyman’s, 8-3, to pick up their third win of the season.

According to reports, both teams played “great defense.” Rob McCarn picked up the pitching victory for An­chor Inn.

Offensively for the winners, Mc­Carn had a triple and one RBI, Bobby Schleben and Anthony Burtis each had a home run and three RBIs, Vince Austin had a double and Mike Richardson had an RBI.

Limberlost 27, Spicer’s 7

After jumping to a 9-1 first-inning lead, Limberlost added 13 runs in the third en route to a 27-7 win over Spic­er’s.

Kent Bergstrom picked up the pitch­ing victory.

Offensively for Limberlost, Dan Lauzon and Corey Harsh were both 5-5 with Harsh hitting three home runs and a double and Lauzon hitting one home run. Russ Hayden was 4-4 as was No­lan Hans, who had an in-the-park home run and a double. Gary Eiseler was 4-5 with two doubles and a triple, Jeff Wade was 4-5 with a home run, Ryan Hoffman had two doubles and Brendon Hans had a triple.
