Mary Ann Walsh

Mary Ann Walsh, 88, Las Vegas, formerly of Au Gres and Sebewaing, died unexpectedly at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas Jan. 2, 2018.

Visitation will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, Au Gres, Saturday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. until Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m., officiated by Father Gerald Balwinski. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Au Gres.

She was born to Morgan W. and Corinne I. (Trudeau) Vaughan May 1, 1929, in St. Paul, MN, where she also married Frederick J. Walsh June 9, 1951.

Following her husband's retirement in 1984, they moved to Au Gres after living in Sebewaing for many years. While in Au Gres, she was active at St. Mark Catholic Church, having served as a Eucharistic minister, lector and catechism teacher and was a member of the Altar Society. She was also a great comfort to the sick and shut-in members of the church she would visit on a regular basis as a befriender. She was also a regular volunteer at Red Cross blood drives for many years.

In 2016, Mrs. Walsh decided she did not want to see another Michigan winter. She sold her Point Lookout home and moved to Las Vegas to be warmer and to be nearer to her daughter, Kathy. The move was good for her health and well being. She made many new friends in her apartment complex and became a member of Church of the Holy Spirit.

She had a love of playing cards and enjoyed being part of weekly bridge and rummy groups and also played canasta, pinochle and euchre. Many of her grandchildren were taught various card games before their hands were big enough to hold the cards they were dealt and special card holders were bought for them as family gatherings would always include many hours of card playing.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 54 years, Frederick, Sept. 27, 2005; an infant son, Patrick; and her brother, M. John “Jack” Vaughan.

Surviving are five children, Fred (Michele) of Roscommon, Bill (Kim) of Lake Wylie, SC, Tom (Donna) of Sebewaing, Kathy of Las Vegas and Maureen (Gordon) Sell of Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Noel) Hawkins, John, Amanda (fiancé, Dan Stomber), Terry, Connor and Parker Walsh and Ryan Sell; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Evan Hawkins; sister, Marg Laird of Yucaipa, CA; and sister-in-law, Marge Palmieri of Bellingham, WA.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Labre Indian School, East Tongue River Rd., Ashland, MT 59003.

Arrangements were handled by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
